“If you want to be happy, put your effort into controlling the sail, not the wind.” Anonymous
Our lives are bombarded with messages about what we should like, what we should do, how we should look, where we should work, what kind of partner or parent we should be. It’s all a bit overwhelming and disempowering. For moms in particular, we have an important role to play in modeling the power of choice for our children, through our own actions. What if it was your choice to decide how you wanted to be in the world and what game you wanted to play? How could things be different?
I urge you to consider that no matter what your circumstances are, every moment you are presented with a choice to create the life you want to live.
Life is all about making choices. Take responsibility for your life and your happiness and make a shift. Next time you hear yourself saying ‘I can’t’ or ‘I have to’ – make a choice to reframe it to ‘I choose not to’ or ‘I choose to’. It’s a small change that can make a huge difference in your life. When you banish the ‘have tos’ and ‘shoulds’, you begin to live an empowered, authentic and happy life. Who doesn’t want that?
